Identity Crisis

I’ve been having a serious identity crisis lately. I started blogging as a parent of a child with Sensory Processing Disorder, and  I thought I needed to keep that part of my life separate for some reason. So I created Muddy Monkeys (www.muddymonkeys.me).

But as I’ve been writing more and more, I’ve found myself feeling schizophrenic. The simple fact is that family life is family life, even mixed in with additional challenges. And so, after some soul searching, I’ve decided to integrate my life so that my experience is as authentic as possible. There’s no reason to compartmentalize who I am or who my family is. We just are.

So I will no longer write under Muddy Monkeys but follow my original path — The Jenny Evolution (www.thejennyevolution.com) because we never stop evolving as parents or as people.

Confess! We all have things we’re embarrassed to admit as parents. Now’s your chance to clear your conscience. The juicier the better! Confess — it’s all ANONYMOUS!

  1. I love seeing someone else’s kid having a meltdown because it’s not my kid.
  2. I don’t like kids I don’t know.
  3. I send my kid to school without underwear because I just don’t want to do the laundry.

Video Games Can Help Your Marriage

You say you are sick of your husband playing Xbox all Friday night? Here’s how to turn his obsession to your advantage.

1. Uncover information. Men don’t like having deep conversations one on one. It makes them horribly uncomfortable. Women, on the other hand, eat this stuff up. It’s how we bond. You tell me something about you. Then I’ll tell you something about me.

When men play video games, however, they’re distracted. They’re busy thinking about their strategy for blowing up the other team (or how they’re getting their butt kicked online by a 14 year old). This distraction brings down their defenses. Now is the time to strike.

I have always been a bookworm. But now that I have kids, I spend more time reading with them than I do for myself. This week, the books we enjoyed include:

1. The Busy Little Squirrel by Nancy Tafuri
2.  Never Trust a Tiger: A Story from Korea (Animal Stories)retold by Lari Don, illustrated by Melanie Williamson

Staycations with Young Kids Is No Vacation

Suitcase

Staycations are all the rage. With less money, it makes even more sense to stay home and enjoy the holiday break with your family from the comfort of your own home. Right? Wrong!

As Thanksgiving was coming ’round the corner, I was looking forward to hanging out with my boys, getting Christmas underway and not cooking because my brother-in-law was hosting the big feast. I sit here feeling like a stuffed turkey as the Christmas lights lay wrapped around our front entrance waiting to be turned on. However, the reality of having the boys home for a full week is settling in and it ain’t pretty. Continue Reading →
